Open Section Type M

The standardized thin-walled cold-rolled cross-sections, type M, are produced based on the company’s high quality criteria, covering a wide range of applications. They are produced in desired lengths up to 14m depending on the requirements of the project. It is possible to drill holes Φ6, Φ8, Φ10, Φ12.5, Φ14, Φ16, Φ18, Φ20, Φ22 at any point with excellent precision for the application of screw connections with other metal and structural elements.

The M-type open cross-sections, due to their design, carry the largest loads and can still be used as columns and beams in light constructions. They are usually used as joists or purlins to support the siding or covering of the building. Obviously, the number of applications of these cross-sections is unlimited, provided that the static study of the structure has been prepared.

Sheets

They are mainly produced with high-quality and durable steel sheets, with hot galvanic protection, according to EN 10346, EN 10143 standards in terms of quality and tolerances. The thickness of the plates ranges from 1.50mm to 3.00mm. Galvanized steel sheets of 2.00mm thickness are usually used.

Thin-walled M-type open sections are attached to the load-bearing body by the standard method of bolting. It is recommended that the support is done with screws and not with self-drilling screws or rivets. In general, in thin-walled cross-sections, welding connection is not preferred.

Thin-walled M-type cross-sections cannot be overlapped. To connect the pieces, cross-section J joints with screw connection are used. The thickness of the link plate is always greater than that of the cross-section, while their length depends on the opening between the supports. It is recommended that the connections be made at the locations of the supports (columns, beams).

For structural constructions, the reduction in strength due to notches must be calculated taking into account what is provided by the ΕΝ 1993-1-3 standard.

J-type open cross-section

Alternatively, there is the possibility of producing standardized thin-walled cold-rolled cross-sections, type J. This cross-section itself is a structural element. It is usually used as a connector (sleeve) of the M-type cross-section. Likewise, it is produced from high-quality and durable steel sheets, with hot galvanic protection, in accordance with EN 10346, EN 10143 standards in terms of quality and tolerances. The thickness of the plates ranges from 2.00mm to 4.00mm in lengths up to 14 meters.
